A typical session lasts for about an hour but the first session is dedicated to understanding the area of your life that you want to change and that takes a little longer – normally 90 minutes.  So during that first session I’ll ask you all about your issue and I’ll explain a bit about the theory of cognitive hypnotherapy, hypnosis and NLP and how we might work together in your case.  Once we’ve discussed a treatment plan we’ll make a date for the next session.

After that initial session I will be working with you to resolve your problem.  Cognitive hypnotherapy is a bespoke approach and your treatment plan will be personalized to you.  We may agree some ‘homework’ for you to do between sessions such as practicing the techniques I’ve shown you or keeping a note of any changes that have occurred between sessions.  I may also record a hypnosis CD for you to listen to which could contain hypnotic suggestions to reinforce the work we have done.

Sessions take place in comfortable, informal surroundings.  I will explain all of the techniques to you before you experience them and you can ask questions at any time.

How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on the nature of your problem.  Some problems only require two sessions but for most a programme of 4 to 6 sessions will be enough to achieve sustainable change.

Will I lose control if you hypnotise me?
Definitely not.  Being hypnotized and in trance does not mean that you are unconscious or out of control.  We all go in and out of trance every day.  There have probably been instances when you have been driving along a familiar route and you arrived at your destination without remembering the journey.  That’s because you have been in a light form of trance.

During therapy you may have your eyes closed but you will not be asleep and you will still be able to hear as normal and move as normal. At the end of the hypnotherapy session you will either open your eyes naturally or when prompted by me.

You can’t be made to do anything or say anything under hypnosis that is against your will or principles.  But I wouldn’t ask you to do anything like that anyway.  You will generally experience a relaxing state that’s a bit like day dreaming

What’s special about Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy has evolved by gaining insights from a range of current psychological and therapeutic disciplines including Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Positive Psychology and Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR).  This means that as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist I have a wide range of tools and techniques to utilize to help you solve your problems.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a client-based approach that utilizes the light states of trance that we all experience every day.  Your treatment plan will be tailored to meet your specific needs.  We will be working together to achieve the changes you want to make but you have control and responsibility for your progress – I’m just there to assist you to use your own resources.

How much will it cost?
The first 30 minutes of the first session are FREE so that we can get to know each other and decide whether this is the right approach for you.

After that the cost is £65 per session.  This includes any factsheets and CD or MP3 recording of hypnotic suggestion that I create for you if that’s appropriate to your treatment.

I don't have time to come and see you.  What can I do?

Although it's preferable to meet face-to-face there are other options if that is not possible.  We could use email or Skype to talk about your issue.  From that information I could record a bespoke hypnosis CD for you to address your problem.  The recording will last between 15 and 20 minutes and will include a hypnotic induction followed by some suggestions specific to the information you have given me.

The cost of a bespoke recording, including the initial consultation is £65, the same as the cost of a face-to-face session.  If, in future, you would like to have the recording updated to maintain your progress, I can do this for a small charge.

Contact me for an informal chat about this option.
